1st International Competition for Classical Guitar
(2019)

In spite of the existence in Portugal of several guitar contests, Braga Classical Guitar International competition takes on meaning given the size of the city, the tradition of the stringed instruments in Braga, the high number of players of this instrument as well as the great diversity of music schools dedicated to the teaching of this instrument, among others.

This contest is held every two years in alternation with Braga International Competition for Chamber Music with Guitar, both constituting a strong programmatic element of Braga Guitar Festival.

In addition to the internationally acknowledged jury prestige and the significant awarded prizes value, the competition has also other differentiating elements that give it greater meaning and value, such as the obligatoriness of the finalist participants to interpret a Portuguese piece (international category), commissioned by the festival to Portuguese composers, with the added value of its subsequent publication.

Thereby, Braga International Classical Guitar Competition aims to be part of the international reference offer in this field, integrating the international route of the major competitions of the specialty.
